The Smart Board interactive whiteboard helps energize presentations and motivate learners. The Smart Board was introduced in 1991 as the first interactive whiteboard and is now the world's leading interactive whiteboard. The Smart Board interactive whiteboard is incredibly easy to use. The touch-sensitive display connects to your computer and digital projector to show your computer image. You can control computer applications directly from the display, write notes in digital ink and save your work to share for later. If you can use a computer, you can use a Smart Board interactive whiteboard.

My school recently received several Smart Board interactive whiteboards. I plan to use the Smart Board in my mathematics lesson plans. I am very excited about using this interactive technology in the class room.

Does your school use the Smart Board? If so how have you incorporated the interactive whiteboard into your lessons? If you do not have the Smart Board at your school, then do you use other interactive technologies? If so, what are they? If you have used several types of interactive technologies, then how would you compare them?

SmartBoards are quite visible in our division, at least one per grade level in each of the elementary schools and one per department in the high school. This year I taught English and math, next year I will move to teaching only math. I found it must easier to incorporate the SMART board into math 6 lessons than English lessons. When using it in English it was merely as a whiteboard, I did not use the functionality of the software. In math there are unlimited capabilites, and the use of the software was particulary helpful with graphing and fractions. It is also benefical to save these lessons in the notebook software for review and for absent students.

Great idea Rosalind, I look forward to reading others' thoughts on SMART boards.

Yes, as Christy mentioned, Smart Boards have been used in the FCPS for a couple of years now. I used a Smart Board in my classroom on a daily basis for two years as a fourth grade teacher. I agree with Christy, there are many more purposes for utilizing the Smart Board in math than in English. Last year I was moved to fifth grade and another classroom. Unforunately, the physical set-up of the room didn't allow enough space to use it. I instead relied on my laptop and projector to simply project on my white board..and didn't have the extra technology capabilities.
I have come across many useful websites for Smart Board assistance. Here are only two of many:

Interactive whiteboard technology can motive kids and teachers! As a TRT, I am biased to the Smartboard. In MCPS, we only have the Smartboards from SmartTech. I have seen several others and they are very similiar. It seems like this year more schools have ordered them. I am excited that you will be using it. There are so many interactive tools you can use.

I'll email you some resources. Start looking at www.smarttech.com

Pulaski Middle School has a 4:1 ratio of teachers to smartboards, or something very close to such. On any given day, one could easily find several smartboards in use at my school, and many times the students are leading such use. I will agree with Christy that math is the perfect subject for smartboard use, and the gallery is an excellent tool whether using the board itself, or not.

I have received SmartBoard training at 4 different schools, but due to my subject area haven't gotten to use them. I do think they are wonderful. Maybe in the future I'll have more opportunities.

At my school we have several Smartboards however I have not had the opportunity to use one in my classroom yet. I am still getting my feet wet in using more technology. Hopefully, as a result of this class, I will use it more often.

I have used the Smartboard mainly with English lessons and S.S units. I am blessed to have one in the classroom. I teach at Riverlawn and in the new school every classroom will have a smartboard. I am already thinking how I can expand its use. Good technology.

Not only do you need a SmartBoard, but get youself an Airliner made by Smartboard (especially for math) You can write on them anywhere in your classroom and it shows up on your smartboard
They are GREAT!

I used the Smart Board quite frequently with my Kindergarten class. They absolutely loved working with it! I used my sites that I had collected on my Portaportal and resources found in the Smart Board notebook.

Love the SMARTboard!! I use it almost daily in my history classes (especially with mapping and other geography lessons). The gallery within SMARTnotebook has many items that spark creativity in both students and teachers!
